Sun Yat Sen Residence – Home Of The &”Father Of China&” http://balashiha.su/?p=8057 http://balashiha.su/?p=8057#respond Mon, 29 Aug 2011 17:36:30 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=8057 Sun Yat Sen Residence – Home Of The &”Father Of China&”

Little would one suspect that the quaint little European style house on Xiangshan Road was the former home of the man the Chinese consider to be the father of their Nation. The Sun Yat Sen residence is barely noticeable among the giant skyscrapers that have sprung up alongside it; however, it is a place that almost every tourist to Shanghai remembers to visit.

Sun Yat Sen was a fierce anti-monarchist and he was instrumental in the revolutionary struggle against the Qing dynasty, which was the final imperial family to rule China. In 1912 after overthrowing of imperial rule, Sun Yat Sen ensured his place in the history books when he became the first provisional president of the Republic of China. He later went onto found the Kuomintang of China, also known as the Chinese Nationalist Party, which became a guiding light for the future of the country in its pos- imperial era.

Despite a successful revolution against the monarchy, the party was unable to maintain control of the country. Therefore, much of Sun Yat Sen’s political life was spent in exile. Despite these setbacks, he organized numerous revolts against the Chinese warlords who threw him into exile and the Kuomintang out of power.

His tireless efforts bore fruit, but alas only after his death, with his party forming an alliance with the Communists to finally bring stability to China, following years of warring over territory by regional warlords. Today, Sun Yat Sen’s legacy lives on in his political doctrine “The Principals of People”: nationalism, democracy and the livelihood of people.

Following the death of Sun Yat Sen in 1925, his wife continued to occupy the residence until the Imperial Japanese invasion of Shanghai in 1937. The furniture, the paintings and the memorabilia over the fireplace are all items that were used by Sun Yat Sen himself. Historical manuscripts and photographs detailing the life and times of the great man are also displayed for the benefit of the public. This important historical landmark located close to the financial district  appear within easy reach of business accommodation Shanghai such as a Luxury serviced residence Shanghai offered by Somerset Xu Hui.  Their serviced apartments in the area affords business travelers great access to the city’s business district as well as the city’s major attractions.

Some Tips for Healthy Eating at Universal Studios http://balashiha.su/?p=7835 http://balashiha.su/?p=7835#respond Thu, 02 Jun 2011 22:27:13 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=7835 Some Tips for Healthy Eating at Universal Studios

Fatty hamburgers, oily fries, and greasy pizza—when you’re on a vacation, you cannot help but stuff yourself with these scrumptious and convenient but unhealthy food. It is not any different if you are visiting a world-renowned theme park like Universal Studios. Chances are, you will be exposed to various kinds of unhealthy food during your vacation to this place. But because your health is important whether you are on a vacation or not, here are some tips for healthy eating at this popular theme park.

1.         Bring your Own Food

This first tip is advantageous not only for healthy eating purposes but also to save you money. Bringing your own lunch and snacks would ensure that you are able to stay away from junk foods that are all over the place. Pack healthy snacks such as fruit juice, power bars, sandwiches, and veggie munchies.

2.         Look for Healthy Restaurants

Eating out does not have to mean eating unhealthy foods. All over Orlando, many restaurants serve nutritious dishes. If this means that you need to go out of the theme park to eat, then do so. Here are some of the best choices.

•           Crispers – Don’t be fooled by the name. Usually, crispy food is unhealthy fried food. However, this soup and salad chain actually offers healthy eats such as gourmet sandwiches, amazing wraps, tasty soups, salads with fresh ingredients and fat free dressings. In the menu, choose vegetarian dishes marked with a little red tomato symbol.

•           Ming Court – Healthy Chinese food is the specialty of this casual restaurant, which is flocked by tourists and locals alike. For freshly prepared stir-fry and delectable sushi, be sure to drop by this place for a round of healthy lunch or dinner.

•           Red Bamboo Thai Restaurant – Located on the International Drive, this healthy Thai restaurant is the perfect place to eat your lunch or dinner. Don’t miss their tofu and vegetable medley with spicy Thai curry sauce. If you’re looking for something a bit toned down, you can go for the heavy-on-the-appetite steamed meet and vegetable dishes with light seasoning and served with rice.

•           Salt Island Chophouse & Fish Market – People who crave for seafood should certainly head over this restaurant, which offers a wide assortment of healthy seafood platters such as grilled scallops, garlic shrimp, and grilled fish.

3.         Stay away from junk food

Temptation to eat junk food is hard to resist. But you can if you make it a goal to avoid these kinds of foods at all cost with the right motivation. Not only are they unhealthy, they also won’t provide you with the energy you need to do all the activities lined up for your vacation.

Healthy eating is possible even in a place like the Universal Studios. Just make sure that you find healthy restaurants, bring your own food, and stay away from junk food. To make sure that you really have a good time, consider availing Universal Orlando Packages that will make planning a cinch. Universal Orlando Packages can be purchased online but you need to find a reputable travel website to provide you with the best rate and service possible.

Lyme Disease – Don’t Let a Serious Tick Bite Ruin Your Holiday http://balashiha.su/?p=6057 http://balashiha.su/?p=6057#respond Tue, 26 Apr 2011 06:11:58 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=6057 Lyme Disease – Don’t Let a Serious Tick Bite Ruin Your Holiday

Travelers, campers, and vacationers alike can be at risk for getting Lyme disease, a serious, debilitating condition caused by being bitten by an infected tick.

What are the symptoms of Lyme disease?

Some of the symptoms of Lyme disease are the classic bull’s-eye red rash, fatigue or loss of energy, feeling sleepy, tingling and numbness, swollen and painful joints, memory loss, and feeling like you are getting the flu.  Paralysis of the face is a less common symptom.

Lyme disease can make your life miserable and cause you a lot of pain and suffering if it’s not diagnosed and treated right away.  The longer you wait before seeing a health professional allows this disease to progress quickly and it may not be possible to lessen it’s effects.

How is Lyme disease spread?

Ticks bite and then feed on animals like mice, other small rodents, and deer.  If these animals are harboring the Lyme bacteria, they can pass this  bacteria on to the ticks.  And if people are bitten by an infected tick they may contract Lyme disease.

What steps can you take to reduce the chance of getting Lyme disease?

Some people do not have symptoms that show right away so prevention is always the best policy.  If you are traveling in the spring and summer months to or through areas where deer, mice, other rodents and animals live, the following are some things you can do.

When you are camping on holidays or vacation, you can lessen the number of ticks around your campsite by cleaning up any brush and leaves debris.  Wearing light colored clothing helps you to easily see these very tiny black insects and remove them before they get attached to your skin.  Make sure you wear long-sleeved shirts and tuck them inside your pants.  Always tuck your pant cuffs inside of your socks.  It is also a good idea to wear rubber boots as ticks are commonly found close to the ground.  However, you may also get them in your hair if you happen to brush against any leaves on a low tree branch.  Wearing a light-colored, wide-brimmed hat will help.  Be sure to check your skin and scalp carefully as ticks can easily be overlooked, especially in your hair.  Applying a DEET insect repellent to your clothes and exposed skin, as well as applying permethrin, an insecticide, to your clothes will also help.

How can you remove ticks safely?

Ticks that have burrowed and embedded themselves underneath your skin can be removed by using a small-tipped tweezers.  Do not leave any part of the tick remaining under your skin.  When the tick has been totally removed, disinfect the wound thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol.  Keep in mind that you are not totally out of the woods yet, so to speak, as the symptoms can take a number of days or weeks before they show.  Using tweezers is the only safe way to remove ticks from under your skin or scalp.  Don’t try to remove any ticks by using burnt matches, petroleum jelly, or alcohol as this will aggravate them, causing them to release more of the bacteria into your blood stream.

Please note that there is no vaccine available for Lyme disease.

The Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) states that this bacterial disease is vastly under reported, perhaps by well over 100,000 cases per year in the U.S. alone.  Visit their website at cdc.gov for more information on Lyme disease.

India is still the largest movie producer of the world, producing an average of 1000 movies a year. Since 1931, when the talkies were introduced, India has produced more than 67,000 films in more than 30 languages. Today Bollywood – the Hindi cinema counterpart of Hollywood – is no longer catering to a limited audience, it has gathered a large worldwide audience, especially among the NRI’s through its international quality along with the blending of east and west. Bollywood has come a long way since 1896 when soundless movies made its advent into India with the Lumber Brothers. “Raja Harishchandra” in 1913 made by the legendary Dadasaheb Phalke heralded the birth of the Indian film industry. Today popularly known as Bollywood certain rules remain unchanged in Bollywood – the Hindi cinema equivalent of Hollywood. Actors still break into a song though the venue is a discotheque. As of today songs are played at weddings, festivals, nightclubs, cutting across the numerous ethnicities and lifestyles of Indians, as well as the Indian diaspora spread across the globe. Demonstrating that westernization need not affect the Indian identity.

How to avoid altitude sickness in the high mountains http://balashiha.su/?p=4706 http://balashiha.su/?p=4706#respond Fri, 07 Jan 2011 19:35:29 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=4706 How to avoid altitude sickness in the high mountains

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am 26. I grew up in East Cornwall; my parents ran their own business. Their business sold fuel saving devices for cars that were highly magnetic- that’s the devices that were magnetic, not the cars obviously. Over time some of the distributors who indirectly worked for the company selling the products began to notice that the dodgy knees, bad hips and other complaints they had been carrying around for years seemed to be feeling a lot better when they had been carrying the devices around in their pockets. This prompted my father to do some research.

Magnetic therapy, or magnotherapy, was nothing new, in fact its roots can be traced back to ancient china, but this represented an important milestone in the development and increasing popularity of magnotherapy in this country. His research into and increased understanding of the complex biophysical interactions between living cells and magnetic fields led to him receiving the prestigious BT Award for Innovation, while his magnotherapy company appeared twice in the Sunday Times/Virgin list of Top 100 Fastest Growing Privately Owned Companies. His original CRP magnet module became the world’s leading magnotherapy product and remains the only magnetic bracelet to complete a successful clinical trial under an approved medical protocol.

Though I heard many stories and examples of the products helping people and animals (including a male elephant at Whipsnade Safari Park who was not able to fulfil his duties as part of the park’s breeding program because of a bad back. After a jumbo sized magnetic strap was made, he was able to continue, much to the delight of the keepers and lady elephants) I never had any experiences of their benefits myself. That was until last year when I travelled to India.

I began my four month trip to India in the far north. I flew from Delhi to Leh, the largest town in the ancient former kingdom of Ladakh, a beautiful Buddhist region with its own unique culture nestled high in the Himalayas close to the Chinese border. It is in fact, the highest inhabited place in the world.

As you can imagine, flying directly from Delhi, averaging around 250 metres above sea level, to Leh, 3500 metres above sea level, is quite an adjustment for the body to handle, and most people suffer from altitude sickness to some degree when they arrive. I made three friends quite quickly when I arrived.

Of the three of us, I was the only one who did not have to put themselves to bed with a pounding headache, and I, of course, was wearing one of the magnetic bracelets sold by my father’s old company, which he had by now sold. One of my new friends was suffering so badly after during the first two days that after a glass of mint tea (supposedly good for the stomach) she was physically sick in the street. I lent her my magnetic bracelet, and in the morning she felt much better.

During a tough mountain trek a few days later, our entire party (besides our local guides) were suffering terrible from headaches and nausea after a very tough day’s trek. I however, whilst not without symptoms, was the only one who felt well enough to sit with our guides and eat dinner.

A new and improved design has now been produced, and represents a further development of the theories that made the earlier design so effective, successful and popular. It may not be the first thing that comes tom mind when you are deciding on equipment for your next adventure, but perhaps it should be on the list.

The Best Way To Explore A New City http://balashiha.su/?p=8355 http://balashiha.su/?p=8355#respond Sun, 25 Apr 2010 09:35:04 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=8355 The Best Way To Explore A New City

By far, the best way I have found to explore any new city is to hop on some public transport, pick a random station or stop, get off and just walk around. Don’t worry about getting lost, you can always find your way back. Make sure you have some cash on you for food. I always carry a survival kit just in case, but have only ever needed to use the button compass as my personal navigation system has never worked properly. This activity does have the potential of going horribly wrong so here are a few tips;

Take trains when you can. They are much easier to navigate and the ticket machines are usually easy to figure out. I was once in Guanzhou (China) and a bus driver just started yelling at me. As it turned out, what I thought was a $5 note was in fact a 50c note. To make thins worse, my father was Chinese so by looking at me he probably thought I was just a local trying to rip him off.

Look back when walking. This will help you remember where you came from. In Shenzhen I just kept walking. By the time I wanted to go back I couldn’t remember where I had come from and was way out of the train zones. I walked for 5 hours before finding someone that could speak English and point me to a bus back to the city (the same bus I got yelled at on).

Write the address of your hotel down in native characters. This way you can just point at them to a taxi driver. Do the same with airport and other useful places.

Know where the ‘dodgy’ areas are and avoid them. The first time I went to New York I caught the subway in the wrong direction and ended up in the Bronx. Luckily it was in the middle of the day. I walked around for a little bit but I’m pretty sure I saw a gang of Crypts at the bus station. I decided not to catch that bus and headed back to the subway.

Start off in the morning and give yourself the whole day. You may just get lunch and go back to the city (or wherever you’re staying), or you may get stuck for a while. My short trip once lasted 36 hours in Malaysia due to infrequent buses. One every other day apparently, and when the driver felt like it. (A local family took me in for the night, it was by far one of the best experiences Ive had in Malaysia

So for those that aren’t so inclined you can stick to taxis to the museum, but for everyone else I highly recommend the ‘bus to nowhere’ method. The minor mishaps you may have on the way are definitely worth what you may encounter.
