Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road http://balashiha.su/?p=2892 http://balashiha.su/?p=2892#respond Wed, 01 Feb 2012 18:48:17 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=2892 Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road

Here are a few of the ‘When Driving in Australia’ things to consider:

1. Australians drive on the left hand side of the road which may be ‘right’ for them but when you get behind the wheel of an Australian car remember that oncoming traffic will be approaching you on your right hand side. It is not uncommon for travellers arriving in Australia from left hand drive counties to have accidents soon after they leave the airport in their shiny new hire car because they have managed to get themselves on to the wrong side of the road. This also occurs more frequently around popular tourist destinations such as the Great Ocean Road along Victoria’s south coast.

2. Australia’s exotic wildlife love to physically confront cars, particularly appearing in front of them as dusk settles or in the middle of the night. While a collision with a heavy set kangaroo or wombat will most likely leave your vehicle un-drivable, do not, if you are confronted with any wildlife, try to steer around it. If it is safe for you to slow down then do so, but do not swerve to avoid it as you may well end up driving off the side of the road and into one of those huge majestic Australian Gum trees, which while being home to the cuddly Australian koalas are unforgiving in any impact with a vehicle or into oncoming traffic. Yes this means let your vehicle hit the animal if you cannot safely avoid it.

3. Vehicles made specifically for Australia often have the indicators and the windscreen wiper levers on the opposite side to European made right hand drive vehicles. So while you are almost guaranteed to turn the wipers on when wanting to turn left or right, or the indicators on to clear the water from the windscreen, familiarize yourself with the controls so at least you will be able to quickly correct any mistake.

4. Speed limits in Australia are a contentious issue even for Australian drivers and can vary a number of times in a short distance in residential areas and leading into or out of regional towns. There are also different speed limits during certain times for school zones and different states across Australia may also have different maximum speed limits. All speed limits are well sign posted so just watch for the signs and you’ll be ok.

5. If you are travelling to Victoria and venture into the city of Melbourne you will see signs for what are called ‘Hook turns’. These ‘Hook Turns’ have nothing to do with pirates, rather they are designed to encourage the flow of traffic and require drivers to turn right from the left hand lane. Yes it does sound up-side-down but take a moment to remember where you are. So here’s how it works: If you want to turn right at an intersection which is denoted with a ‘Hook Turn’ sign, safely get into the left hand lane and enter the intersection. Once in the intersection slow to a stop in the far left hand side of the left hand lane (with your right indicator on). Wait for the traffic lights in front of your to turn red and, after checking over your right shoulder for other vehicles, complete your right turn into the intersecting road and continue as normal. If you are hiring a car ask the reception staff to explain it fully with examples.

6. Australia is a huge country and many remote country roads are long and rarely used. If you are using any of these remote roads be sure carry a supply of water and food in case of emergencies. If your vehicle breaks down, never, never, never (did I say “NEVER”) leave your vehicle. Search crews are more likely to be able to find you with your vehicle than if your decide to head off on foot and expose yourself to the often extremely high day-time and low night-time temperatures.

7. Finally, Australia is a great country to travel and discover with your own vehicle. Whilst the items above may make driving in Australia sound dangerous, they are just some of the little challenges we face as travellers when visiting any country which is not our own. They are more about saying be cautious when driving in an unfamiliar environment and return home safely with some great tales of driving on the wrong side of the road!

Australia is well represented by a number of hire car companies including the well know Budget Car Hire and DriveNow . There are also a number of other operators who can provide everting from small cars to large fully self contained motorhomes and transport vehicles.

Top Tips To Topping Up That Tan http://balashiha.su/?p=9301 http://balashiha.su/?p=9301#respond Tue, 23 Aug 2011 09:45:29 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=9301 Top Tips To Topping Up That Tan!

First of all, don’t even contemplate leaving this bleak weathered, grey skied country without giving that tan a head start!

Around two weeks before you travel, get yourself to the corner shop and book some sunbed sessions, not enough to give you that shiny, papery leather look but enough to create a base layer from which you can build up a fantastic glowing tan.

Nip to the shops and buy enough sun tan lotion to not only last you for your holiday duration, but a bit extra too! You’ll need a small bottle of factor 35, an average sized bottle of 15, a larger sized 8 and a nice low-factor dry oil, perhaps a 2, and if you’re going for that dark brown, coffee look, buy one with keratin!

Don’t forget when packing your case, to individually wrap each bottle of sun tan lotion in a plastic carrier bag to not only avoid spillage, but to protect your clothes and your skin in the long run!

When you finally arrive, you’ll love every minute of it, but where to sunbathe for that maximum tan?! My personal favourite is the beach, not just for the stunning scenery and cool, refreshing sea, but because of that beautiful, brisk breeze. Not only will that lovely breeze cool you down but it also gives a stunningly seamless tan.

One faux pas which many of us make is forgetting to apply aftersun lotion every evening throughout the holiday. Without this added moisture, your skin can become dry and cracked and helps the peeling process start a lot quicker!

Start with your factor 15 lotion and see how you go, if you have any sore or blistering areas, pop a bit of factor 30 on to ensure it doesn’t worsen. As your holiday progresses, reduce the strength of your sun tan lotion, go down to 8 and then eventually you may feel brave enough to go for that factor 4 keratin oil!

Another helpful tip is to make sure you keep applying that sun tan lotion on a regular basis, every half an hour or so, apply a little here and there to ensure a burnt-free complexion. Although you feel fine and like your skin is not burning at all, it can be smouldering without you realising until later that evening when unfortunately, it’s too late.

So whether you’re looking at booking cheap holidays in the Costa Dorada, a scorching week in Santorini or all expenses paid trips to Jamaica, follow these helpful tips to avoid burning and breaking your lovely fresh skin. Magic Kingdom Travel Tips for Disney Vacations with Young Children http://balashiha.su/?p=6071 http://balashiha.su/?p=6071#respond Tue, 23 Aug 2011 00:15:20 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=6071 Magic Kingdom Travel Tips for Disney Vacations with Young Children

What should you do with your children when visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom?  How do maximize their fun?  Here are some tips for traveling with smaller children to Disney World.

Go Early

Most kids are up early, anyway, so get out of bed and get to the parks!  Most people will make their way to the Magic Kingdom at their own leisure.  Of course, there are the hard core travelers that will make it to the opening, but generally, this is a less crowded time to be at the Magic Kingdom.

The one exception to this rule is Extra Magic Hours.  If the Extra Magic Hours occur at Magic Kingdom in the morning, this will likely be the most crowded park of the day.

Go Directly To Fantasyland

Fantasyland will be the most popular area for young children, so get here first.  The majority of guests will go to Tomorrowland or Frontierland first, putting off Fantasyland for later.  Later will be packed!

Part of this strategy involves avoiding characters.  Characters will populate Main Street and the area in front of the castle as a distraction — don’t fall for it!  It’s very tempting, but you must have a plan and work your plan.  The characters will be available for pictures throughout the day.  Come back to them after visiting the most popular rides in Fantasyland.

Use FastPass

Use FastPass to it’s maximum efficiency.  To do this, when you get to Fantasyland (after going directly to it) get a FastPass for a ride in Fantasyland.  While waiting for your return time, ride one of the non-FastPass rides in Fantasyland.  Repeat.

Use the Train

The train that encircles the Magic Kingdom often has little or no wait and kids LOVE IT!  It also helps with reducing the amount you have to walk.  Stops in Toon Town, Main Street, and Frontier Land.  After Fantasyland, you will likely end up in Mickey’s Toontown Fair.  Play around here a bit and then catch a ride on the Walt Disney World railroad.

These are just a few tips for maximizing fun and time at the Magic Kingdom with your little ones.  If you just follow the tips from this post for the Magic Kingdom, you will likely ride all the rides your little ones want to ride and avoid lots of standing around in lines — one of the most difficult times at Magic Kingdom with small children.  You’ll have the magical Disney vacation people often dream of, but seldom get.

Dealing with Lost Airline Luggage http://balashiha.su/?p=2557 http://balashiha.su/?p=2557#respond Sat, 25 Jun 2011 10:19:55 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=2557 Dealing with Lost Airline Luggage

The satisfaction derived from purchasing cheap airplane tickets, finding discount hotel rooms, or securing cheap vacation packages, is quickly diminished if your airline loses your luggage.  Getting reimbursed for lost luggage can prove tricky.

The first thing a passenger needs to do once he discovers that his bag is lost is to go to the baggage claim office at the airport he flew in and report the missing bag.

The good news is that airlines are required to reimburse travelers for clothing and toiletries as a result of lost or delayed bags, according to DOT (Department of Transportation).  The bad news is that reimbursement details are left up to each individual airline.

Some carriers initially deny compensation to customer for purchases made within the first 24 hours followed a reported loss, and/or deny claims for inbound flights on the grounds that passengers have other clothes they can wear already at home. Both positions, according to DOT, are violations of its regulations.  DOT’s position is that fliers purchasing necessities after they file a missing bag claim should be reimbursed vs. having to wait to see if their bag is returned.

Almost 2.2 million pieces of luggage were reported mishandled by airlines in the U.S. last year.  Airlines maximum liability for lost luggage is $3,300 for domestic flights.  The maximum for international flights is only $640.  Airlines are not required to refund checked baggage fees for lost luggage.

Although airlines are required to reimburse for clothing, the amount is negotiable.   Airlines typically make filing a claim as difficult as possible, asking you to prove (via such things as receipts) the value of your lost clothing.  The DOT does not get involved in monitoring or recommending airline reimbursement rates.

Airline customer confusion and frustration in getting claims paid often ultimately benefits the airline.  Customer claims that are not followed up on by the customer often go unreimbursed.  Airlines retain the right to approve or reject any claim.

Persistence is sometimes needed to get a fair resolution for a claim of lost bags.  The DOT recommends that passengers who claims are denied should file a claim with the Aviation Consumer Protection and Enforcement Office.

The Weather in Lanzarote http://balashiha.su/?p=8676 http://balashiha.su/?p=8676#respond Thu, 24 Feb 2011 01:39:53 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=8676 The Weather in Lanzarote

The climate in Lanzarote is similar to the other six Canary Islands, with spring like weather all year round. The absence of any large central mountain means that the difference in temperature between the north and the south is minimal. In summer, the maximum temperature is around 25 degrees centigrade and in winter, the average is 17 degrees centigrade.

Although winters are mild, the warm clouds sometimes collect on the mountains of the north of the island and fog can form over the Riscos de Famara. In recent years, the apparent change in pattern of world wide weather has brought a slightly higher than average rainfall in Lanzarote. This of course has been beneficial to this normally arid climate and has also created a greener landscape in certain parts of this Canary Island.

Spring and summer can be windy in Lanzarote, reaching 23 knots or more, which makes it very popular for windsurfers. An easterly wind known as sirocco sometimes blows from the Sahara Desert. The temperature rises and it can become oppressive. However, these conditions never last long and soon, it is back to clear skies again. Should you experience cloudy weather in your resort, it is quite likely that in another part of the island, it will be sunny. Winter in Lanzarote is generally ten percent warmer than on mainland Spain which is why it is such a popular wintersun destination. The resort of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote tends to have the best of the sun as it is the most southerly.

Airport Parking Solutions at Newark Liberty International Airport http://balashiha.su/?p=721 http://balashiha.su/?p=721#respond Sat, 19 Feb 2011 00:06:14 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=721 Airport Parking Solutions at Newark Liberty International Airport

The Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey opened its doors in 1928, becoming the first ever major airport in the New York Metropolitan Area. It is located 15 miles away from Midtown Manhattan and it forms part of the larger Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is the busiest airport system in the world after London’s and it includes two other major international airports, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and the LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Newark Liberty International is the tenth busiest airport in the country and the fifth busiest international air gateway into the United States.
Newark Liberty is the site of Continental Airlines’ second largest hub. Continental occupies the airport’s entire Terminal C and a part of Terminal A. EWR has only three main passenger terminals, but they are all fairly large, Terminal A being the largest and comprising four levels. The parking options at EWR include short term parking, daily parking and long term parking. There are also a limited number of reserved spaces for passengers with disabilities. An official disabled permit or license plate must be prominently displayed.
Short term parking at EWR is very convenient and should be used if you’re just seeing someone off or waiting for a loved one’s arrival. The price on short term parking is $3 for the first 30 minutes and $6 for 31-60 minutes. Every additional half hour is an extra $3, and the maximum daily fee is $33. Daily parking is located in Parking Lots 1, 3 and 4. The Daily Parking rates are $24 per day on Lots 1 and 3, and $27 a day on Lot 4.
The rates for long term EWR airport parking at Newark Liberty Airport are $18 for the first 24 hours and $6 for each additional 8 hours after that. This comes to a lower hourly rate than that of the short term and daily parking lots, although it is still relatively pricey compared to the rates of off-site lots. If you choose to park off-site, you can get rates as low as $8 per day, and most independent off-site lots offer free airport shuttle service for customers.

Reasons Why You Must Hire A JFK Limo http://balashiha.su/?p=7219 http://balashiha.su/?p=7219#respond Mon, 13 Dec 2010 12:20:37 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=7219 Reasons Why You Must Hire A JFK Limo!

JFK limo service providers can help you avoid the traffic, parking stress, and the subway crowds. Your limo driver will know the city very well and help you reach your destination in the shortest time possible. Furthermore, a limo is extremely comfortable and luxurious. You will not only save time traveling, but will also enjoy the drive by doing some sightseeing right from the limo. Imagine if you only had a few hours to spend in the city, and wanted to visit some of the best spots possible. This would only be possible by renting a limo.

You’ll find it much easier if you have planned your visit in advance. Asking people at the airport (who hardly have time to answer) for advice or talking to various cab drivers would waste your valuable time. If you are visiting New York City for the first time, you must plan well in advance. You could contact a reputable JFK limo service provider as part of your planning activities. As soon as you reach the airport, you would have a well dressed chauffer waiting to drop you at your destination. Once you have rented a limo, you don’t need to worry about anything else.

If you are a first time visitor and don’t have much time available, it could be a tricky situation to choose the sights you would like to visit. There are many events and attractions to see in New York City. A JFK limo driver would know the city inside out, and will also be aware of the latest happenings around town. Your limo driver could therefore very easily help you decide the spots you want to visit. The limo driver will also be aware of operating hours for the sights. In other words, you would get to visit the maximum number of spots in the time you have available.

New York City is certainly a great place to visit. There’s a lot of charm and glamour to the city. However, the city is also very crowded, and sometimes this can ruin your visit to New York. With a JFK limo, you would not only get to enjoy the city without stress from the crowds, but also with the comfort of sitting inside a hotel-like environment.

Unless you have your visit planned, you could spend hours to a complete day, just trying to figure out a way to visit your favorite spots. If you want to save your money and not throw it away by experimenting and finding a way to sightsee New York City, a limousine is the way to go. While this discussion hints at the advantages of renting a JFK limo in New York City, you must rent a limo from a reputable company. This means you will need to do some initial investigation and research in order to find the best company to suit your needs.
