The credit crunch has steadily caused more and more people to feel forced to clamp down on their spending and attempt to save what money they can. With prices clambering whilst wages stay the same, millions of British people are struggling to live the lives they’re used to – which probably means that plenty have already decided a holiday away this year is off the cards.
This needn’t be the case. Although many can’t afford a big trip away this year, there are plenty of other options that will see you getting a well-deserved break without having to worry you’re breaking the bank. For example, this year will see many Britons ditching the continental flights and holidaying at home in the UK instead.
These holidays may not be beachside retreats, but they’re still a lot of fun and a great way to strengthen your connection to the UK. It is your home, after all – and can you say you know every city that well?
UK city breaks can be cheap and just as enjoyable as a trip further afield. With a host of different cities to choose from, each adorned with its very own, very distinctive personality, Britain has far more to offer than you might expect. Whether you prefer the bustling drive of English capital London or the musical delights of Manchester, you’ll be sure to find a UK city perfect for your break away.
It’s important to take holidays, even if only for a few days. And a trip to another UK city can be surprisingly different to what you’re used to. If you live somewhere like London, why not take a trip up to Glasgow and see an altogether different style of life? Similarly, Birmingham-dwellers could try out Edinburgh and Aberdeen residents might visit York to see just how widely the UK varies from city to city.
Best of all, you’ll know by currency when you’re getting a great deal on hotels, food and drink – as well as visiting a wide range of attractions that’ll show you just how diverse and fascinating British cities can be. So whatever city you have your eye on for your break away from the recession the year, UK cheap city breaks are becoming more and more popular by the day – so plenty of opportunities to discover more of the famous British isles.

Adventure Travel Basics http://balashiha.su/?p=582 http://balashiha.su/?p=582#respond Tue, 06 Dec 2011 00:53:33 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=582 Adventure Travel Basics

Adventure Travel Basics will help you define your personal adventure travel style and it also offers suggestions about the types of trips that might fit your dream list. Following are tips for planning your vacation and packing for a trip and where to find companies that offer the trips you dream about taking.

Traveling another country

When traveling to another country, visitors need to think of things like electrical outlets. Make sure you have the adaptors you need for items requiring electricity. Personal items the traveler will need should be thought of ahead of time. You must have prescriptions filled and take extra medications. Carry first aid kits, sun block, and even things like shampoo might need with you. Often, adventure travel means going to remote places so you need to be thorough, but light.

For some, adventure travel equates to grabbing the whitewater kayak and heading down to the river or securing a bungee cord to your ankle and jumping off the bridge.

Trip to desert

Make sure you have the proper clothing when heading out for adventure. If you are going to be going on a desert safari in Egypt be prepared for the heat. Take water, wear protective clothing and bring sunscreen with you. Traveling through areas such as Montana where the weather can be sunny and bright at midday, but possible snowy at nightfall, presents a challenge. Be aware of the extremes wherever you are going to be traveling.

Prague is an ideal place for all the music devotees for they can relish the classical concerts at the Sate Opera and at the Rudolfinum or the Municipal House. The Prague Autumn Festival is a big music event that offers lots of classical concerts and music. The Prague Spring festival is famous all over Europe.

If adventure travel is up your alley than consider a trip to Patagonia, Argentina’s southernmost region filled with towering mountains and enormous glaciers. There are several national parks of interest, and cruises to Antarctica are available from Puenta Arenas and Ushuaia. If you’re planning to fly from Buenos Aires, consider landing in El Calafate, near the Pietro Moreno glacier or Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego.

What Are the Hottest Events in Town for Florida Islanders http://balashiha.su/?p=10511 http://balashiha.su/?p=10511#respond Mon, 25 Oct 2010 17:56:10 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=10511 What Are the Hottest Events in Town for Florida Islanders?

What are some of the hottest events in Sanibel and Captiva Island?  This “Shelling Capital of the Western World” certainly has plenty of outdoor fun in its beaches and wildlife attractions.  However, residents of the area may find some of the following events exciting enough to lure them from the relaxing Florida island beaches.
For starters, there’s the Everglade Island Boat Tours and Everglades Excursion.  These eco-tours put you inside an airboat as you tour the jungles area of the Everglades region.  Residents always look forward to the 24th Annual BaileyFest, which features family carnival fun, including games, live music, prizes and entertainment.
Sanibel also welcomes locals and tourists to the Art Walk in Downtown Fort Myers as well as cultural show called “80s to the Max.”  The 23rd Annual 2D 3D All Florida Juried Exhibit is another exhibit in the springtime, while Miracle vs. Bradenton is a sports and recreation event held in Six Mile Cypress Pkwy.  The PBR Professional Bull Riders group put on a great show in the Germain Arena on Everblades Parkway.
In the summer, Sanibel has the 2010 Islands Night with games, contests, and activities for youngsters.  This show benefits charities.  Some of the past charities played for include the Sanibel School, the Children’s Hospital, Sanibel Captiva Cares and Hope Hospice.  The July 4th Fireworks Show at the Embassy Suites Fort Myers (one of the best Sanibel Island hotels to rent) is sure to delight people of all ages, while the Happy Birthday Henry Ford event at Edison and  Ford Winter Estates is sure to please historians.
In November, Sanibel Island, Florida welcomes the 22nd Annual American Sandsculpting Championship Festival.  This competition brings in the best sand sculptors throughout the country.  The Sanibel Luminary Festival is also held in November and will hold locals over until the Captiva Luminary Festival in December.  These festivals both contain wondrous holiday lights and refreshments.
As far as traveling acts in Sanibel events (and in Captiva, FL), don’t miss Tutankhamun: Wonderful Things from the Pharaoh’s Tomb throughout the summer.  For more relaxed celebrations, look for the Quilt Show at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in October and for live musical performances at the Broadway Palm Theatre, which welcomes famous shows like Cinderella.
While this city is known for its beach and wildlife refuges, there is plenty of local culture to experience in Sanibel Island!  Come get involved in the community!

Take a Look at the Florida Panhandle – Part 1 – Tallahassee and Pensacola http://balashiha.su/?p=8110 http://balashiha.su/?p=8110#respond Thu, 23 Sep 2010 19:38:26 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=8110 Take a Look at the Florida Panhandle – Part 1 – Tallahassee and Pensacola

To the East is Florida’s state capital, Tallahassee, with its streets of graceful old Southern mansions. To the far west lies Pensacola, which it is said, is the country’s oldest settlement, dating from 1559. Between these towns, is the potential for a whole range of different holidays.

Tallahassee was named by the Apalachee Indians.

It is best enjoyed by traversing along the Canopy Roads. Which as the name suggests, are thoroughfares in the middle of town, where Spanish-moss-dripping-oaks connect above the streets forming a lush tunnel-like canopy.

Visit the New Capitol Building and go to the 22nd floor observation level. There you can see magnificent views of the city and beyond. You can also still see the Old Capitol building with its red and white awnings. Many thousands of students bring a real buzz to Tallahassee, culminating at night, when the live music scene caters for a young crowd.

Pensacola is found in the far western tip of the Florida Panhandle.

Pensacola spent centuries changing hands between the French, Spanish and Britain, before being relinquished to the United States in 1821.

Most who visit go straight to the superb beaches. But it the city’s architecture makes for a great day of sightseeing.

There are three distinct areas to explore. All grouped around a simple grid of roads backboned by Palafox Street.

The North Hill district is where Pensacola’s high society resided during the late 19th century until the 1930s. Their housing architecture ranged from neoclassical porticoed mansions to black-and-white neo-Tudor cottages and Queen Anne villas.

The Palafox district to the south of North Hill is full of turn of the century elegance such as fluted columns and elaborate balustrades.

The Sevilla district, fronting onto Pensacola Bay, forms a wonderful mixture of restored old homes and great museums.

Around Memorial Day weekend, the city is teeming with the biggest lesbian and gay party of up to 100,000 attendants, on the streets and on Navarre Beach in a whirl of reveling.
