If you’re going to find yourself in New Zealand soon, whether on vacation or business, you’ll require car hire services. Cheap car hire at airports across New Zealand is available. You need to keep in mind a few things before deciding on which car hire service you’d like to use. Each service has different features, prices, and packages, but many services offer discounts for booking your car hire service early. Some services such as Budget, offer a 10% discount for those who book six weeks in advance and also prepay. For your convenience, many of these services can take your reservation online, or by phone.
Avis and Hertz also operate in New Zealand, providing their quality services to airports across New Zealand. Their cars are top of the line and have many important features which will improve your comfort while you travel. Hertz’s NeverLost GPS navigation system helps you find your way when you may not be sure of where to go. They also offer services like child booster seats, satellite radio, DVD players, luggage racks, and even ski racks are available for avid skiers who visit New Zealand. In addition to these services, both Avis and Hertz offer pick up and drop off services at all major airports in New Zealand, so you’re never left without the transportation you need. Also, if you’re an avid traveler and often find yourself reserving car hire services with either of these companies, they both offer gold member services, which provide you with top notch care and security in case you are ever in trouble with your rental. This service is great for a constant traveler. If you’re looking for cheap car hire service, there are other options available to you.
Budget, as mentioned above, gives you a discount for prepaying early. They only carry the latest model cars, from small compact cars to larger SUVs. Budget also offers many two wheeled vehicles for those who prefer to be in the open air as they travel around the country. They also offer a collision damage waiver, as well as theft protection so you have peace of mind as you travel New Zealand. All of these features and more are available for a great low price from Budget car hire.
If you’re unsure of the type of car you need, or how long you’ll need the car hire service for, you should compare car hire in New Zealand with Avis, Budget, Dollar, Economy and Hertz. Each of these companies is a major operator throughout New Zealand and can custom tailor a car hire service to suit your needs, so your journey across New Zealand is as smooth and sound as possible.

Face Your Tefl Fears http://balashiha.su/?p=3355 http://balashiha.su/?p=3355#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2011 16:24:07 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=3355 Face Your Tefl Fears

On paper, teaching English abroad is a pretty sweet option – exploring new cultures, getting paid to travel, notching up awesome stories to tell your mates back home.

But thinking you’re going to do it, and actually, properly getting on that plane are two very different things. So what holds people back? Fear that’s what! Teaching abroad may be great, but leaving everything you’ve ever known (including gravy, Radio 4 and Jaffa Cakes) behind can be a tad daunting. So, to help you turn feeling scared into feeling excited about the opportunities offered by TEFL, here are people’s most common TEFL fears and how to face them:

Fear 1: My students will eat me alive

Kids. A lot of the time they’re cute and well-behaved, but sometimes it feels like the spawn of Satan is sat at the desk in front of you. Lovely Astrid for instance recently had one kid sitting in class systematically breaking pencils in half. Not nice. Adults aren’t an easy option either – while they probably won’t smash up your stationery they can undermine your authority and start taking over your show.

Solution: Be assertive and take a stand, as students (of all ages) can smell fear, seriously. You’ll also feel much more confident about situations, and know how to cope with them better, if you do a TEFL course before you head out.

Fear 2: My school will treat me like dirt

The optimistic part of you is hoping for golden sands, friendly locals and lots of spare time to explore. The less optimistic part of you is imagining a dungeon-esque classroom which you’re locked into 7-days a week and forced to run English corners for the rest of eternity.

Solution: Research! Make sure you chat to people on forums and do a few Google searches of your school before you sign your name of the dotted line. You also need to negotiate with your employer to make sure that your expectations are going to be delivered. Ultimately though, take things you read online with a pinch of salt, as if everyone took everything the read on the internet seriously we’d never leave our houses. Also, if your school isn’t what you hoped it would be, there will be other options while you’re in-country. And if you do feel you need that extra support, a supported internship program like these might be the thing for you

Fear 3: I’ll be alone

All together now… ‘All by myself, don’t wanna be…’

What use is experiencing all these amazing new things if you don’t have anyone to share them with? You could be in the most incredible place in the world, but if you’re sat in a crummy apartment eating instant noodles and watching TV shows you can’t understand you won’t be having the best time in the world.

Solution: Get out there! There are loads of ways to make friends whenever you’re in a new country – start with the people directly around you (other teachers at your school, students) and branch out from there. Emma Foers has some great advice for making friends when you’re new in town. Alternatively, sign up to a supported programme, like the Teach in China internship, where you’ll get a chance to meet lots of other people who are in the same boat as you.

Fear 4: I won’t like the food

Tasty Chinese food

It’s a fact of life – some people just aren’t that adventurous when it comes to food. In fact I had one ex-boyfriend whose entire diet consisted of beige food: cheese, bread, chicken, more cheese. I think he made an exception for bacon. Buut – it has a happy ending folks – he went out to Japan to teach English after uni and is having such a great time that he’s still out there. So I figure if he can get over his irrational fear of tomatoes to fulfil his travel dreams, anyone can.

Fear 5: I’ll be unemployable when I get home

You’re clued up, you’ve got a five year plan, but how does TEFL fit into it? Won’t employers see your swanning off around the world to teach English as rather indulgent? I mean, shouldn’t you have been back at home chained to a desk like they were at your age?!

Got more TEFL fears? Click here to request a free consultation with an i-to-i TEFL expert to chat through them.

*For the uninitiated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHDMZEw5f7Q”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHDMZEw5f7Q

What are your TEFL fears? And how did you get over them?

Erik Hastings on Travel Broadcasting http://balashiha.su/?p=3141 http://balashiha.su/?p=3141#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2011 03:17:48 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=3141 Erik Hastings on Travel Broadcasting

Erik Hastings, travel expert and host of The Travel Show on WABC Radio, the biggest station in New York, was the guest on the Steve Perillo Travel Show this week. In his conversation with Steve Perillo, the third generation CEO of Perillo Tours, Erik Hastings shares his opinion on who should be called a travel expert. He feels that only people like Arthur Frommer, who have traveled extensively and have years of experience doing it should be called travel experts.
He also admits that he likes to do more than just write articles on travel and that is why he does the radio show. He feels that people should see and hear more about the places they want to travel. He also says that consumers should get a more experiential feel of the place.
On the second part of the Perillo Travel Show, Erik Hastings recounts how he began his career in travel broadcasting industry and his journey towards The Travel Show host on WABC. He reveals to Steve Perillo that he started doing radio from the age of 15, but later quit his job to pursue a career in acting. When his acting career failed to take off, he decided to go back to radio on his friend’s suggestion. He started as a vacation relief board operator and went on to become the host on The Travel Show on WABC.
When quizzed if he wanted to do television after his travel show on radio, Erik Hastings answers that there is more potential for growth on the web than television. According to him, people can get unbiased and good information only on the web.

Capsule Hotels in Japan http://balashiha.su/?p=1720 http://balashiha.su/?p=1720#respond Sat, 18 Sep 2010 00:47:41 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=1720 Capsule Hotels in Japan

What is a capsule hotel?
A capsule hotel can be described as a hotel system that provides densely populated accommodation which contains rooms of a relatively standardized size based on modular plastic or fibreglass sleeping quarters. Other than your own room, all other facilities are shared.

History
Although capsule hotels are quintessentially Japanese, the first capsule hotel was only built in 1979 by a chap in Osaka by the name of Kisho Kurokawa. The rates were a bit lower back then at about 1,600 yen. Capsule hotels are a uniquely Japanese phenomenom not only because of space restrictions but because Japan is still a relatively safe country and such a facility would be unthinkable in many other countries.

It wasn’t until 1985, when the Tsukuba Science Expo was held, that capsule hotels became well known in Japan. There wasn’t enough room to accommodate everyone so the organisers decided to make capsule hotels so everyone could enjoy the expo and stay overnight. This became big news when reported on Japanese televsion, and since then capsule hotels have become part of the Japanese vocabulary. The first reported capsule hotel in Tokyo was Green Plaza Shinjuku, located in the red light district of Kabukicho. The Green Plaza is also the biggest capsule hotel in Tokyo with 630 rooms.

How to use a capsule hotel
Most capsule hotels do not have a key to the room so you need to place your valuables in a separate locker. You have to share the bathroom, rest room and bath with everyone else (most capsule hotels have a sauna included). Most of the basics are provided and they have a communal bath which you share with other clientelle. Many capsule hotels have a large bath called a ‘Rotenburo’ which means ‘open air bath’ where you can relax under the open sky.

When you enter you have to take off your shoes, put them in a shoe locker and lock it with the key which is provided. You then give the shoe locker key to the reception staff and they provide you with another key for a small clothes locker. At this point they give you a description of how their system works. There is usually a Yukata, bath towel and a small hand towel in the locker in which you place your belongings. After you do this you can then go to your room.

You can watch a small television while lying down (usually around 8 inches). In fact, the capsule hotels are so compact that it is possible to operate the lights, air conditioning, TV, radio and Alarm Clock from the bed without having to move. One negative aspect of Capsule Hotels is that they are not sound proof, so it is possible to hear the person next to you snoring (earplugs are recommended).

Most capsule hotels have a two-tiered system so each room has two capsule rooms – one on top and one on the bottom. The people at the front tell you whether you are on the top or bottom one and you can access the top bunk rooms via the stairs provided. For those over about 190cm, you have to bend your legs slightly when you go to bed. For those who are a little overweight there usually isn’t a problem with the width.

Location
Most capsule hotels are found in central city areas where it is common for people to miss the last train or bus. Nearly all capsule hotels are within walking distance of a station.

Reservations
Although many people use capsule hotels because they miss the last train home, it is possilbe to make reservations via the internet or by phone.

Conditions
Many of the capsule hotels only accept men, but there are some which are exclusive to women. In terms of time restrictions, most places have a check in time of 17:00 and check out time of 10:00am. Depending on the type of capsule hotel, you are required to return to the hotel by 02:00, but others are 24 hours.

Although most capsule hotels require you to stay a night, there are some which allow you to use facilities for a shorter period of time if you just want to take a break. For example, at Capsule Inn Akihabara they allow you to take a shower for 500 yen or sleep/rest for 3 hours for 1,200 yen or 7 hours for 2,500 yen. Some places have restrictions on how many nights you can stay, so if you are looking to stay for a period of more than 2 nights you should check their conditions before booking.

Capsule Hotels are thought to be men only domains, but there are many places available where women can stay. Some are exclusive to women and some allow both men and women to stay in the same complex, although the accommodation areas and bathing are separated.

At most capsule hotels you can not take your own food or drink into the capsule hotels and you must be over 18.

Recent trends
Although foreigners describe capsule hotels as ‘Coffin hotels’, in many cases this is an unfair description. Some of the more recent capsule hotels have internet access, a key for your room, private videos (such as Hotel Dandy in Ueno) and a private shower room. They also have cabin types which have a chair and table. More recently, double-bed capsule hotels have been introduced where you are allowed two people to a room. In many of the new establishments, on the top floor they have an open sauna (rotenburo) and a separate massage room. In particular, some of the women only capsule hotels are quite extravagant with high quality spas.

Alternative accommodation
If you are looking for something even cheaper than a capsule hotel (although possibly not quite as comfortable), other alternatives are Kenkou (health) land or Manga Kissatens.

Safe Driving In The Rainy Season http://balashiha.su/?p=7407 http://balashiha.su/?p=7407#respond Wed, 07 Jul 2010 15:43:19 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=7407 Safe Driving In The Rainy Season

Driving in the rain can be deadly because one’s visibility is reduced and there are usually hazardous and slippery conditions on the road. Therefore, one should take precautions to ensure they reach their destination safely.  It is important to always keep in mind that safe driving starts immediately one has left their curb. If one wants to drive safely in the rain, they should have window cleaners, car manuals, emergency flares, wiperblades, washer fluids and cards used for road emergencies.  Prior to starting the journey one should ensure their windows and windshields are clean on the outside and the inside. One should then check their headlights, brake lights, turn signals and tail lights. The car’s motor for the windshield wiper should also be checked for proper functioning and so should the blades.

Whenever rain starts dropping one should turn their headlights on along with their wipers. The lights should be on during the day and at night as well.  It is also advisable for the person to reduce their speed during this time. One should also not drive too close to other cars so as there are usually poor driving conditions at this time. When it is raining too hard and one cannot be able to see other vehicles or the end of their road. The places that one can go for a stop over are at restaurants, road side malls and rest areas. When driving, one should not remove their hands from the steering wheel at anytime. They should also keep all forms of distractions like radios and cell phones away. One should also ensure that the highest speed they use is related to their tires directly. The condition of the car also matters. When it comes to traction, radial tires are the best compared to the polyester ones.

Hydroplaning during the rainy season often causes drivers to get into accidents. Hydroplaning occurs when a person’s vehicle travels on water with little or no contact with the ground. This reduces one’s traction significantly. If one wants to get out of this situation they should let the gas off and steer straight towards the place they should go. One should also remain calm and not make sudden motions. It is also advisable for the driver to avoid using flooded roads. One should never drive through flowing or standing water unless they are sure of the depth of the water. Deep water has the ability of taking cars of the road and can also flood one’s engine which can cause it to stall. As soon as the windshield starts to fog one should turn the defroster on. One should also know that water can affect their brakes and this especially applies to the Wet drum kind. Drivers should also watch out for splashing as they come to pools and potholes that contain water that has accumulated at drain pipes that have clogged. There are usually ruts on potholes as well where the traffic is heaviest and one may have the ability to position their vehicle while still in their lane in order to avoid them.
