Travel Essentials: Four Items not to Forget http://balashiha.su/?p=9481 http://balashiha.su/?p=9481#respond Tue, 22 Nov 2011 15:10:00 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=9481 Travel Essentials: Four Items not to Forget

Whether you’re a busy business traveller heading off to yet another meeting, or a backpacker about to embark on a gap-year adventure, there are some vital items that no traveller should leave behind. The following will help make your trip much more pleasant, so don’t forget to pack these essentials.

Ear Plugs

Travelling is an inherently tiring process often requiring early starts and late nights. Combine this with unfamiliar beds and noisy hotel guests, and you’re going to need all the help you can get to fall asleep. Enter the ear plugs; these simple pieces of wax or foam can be a saviour for tired travellers, allowing you to block out the auditory world, and sink into a much needed deep and refreshing sleep. Ear plugs come in a surprising variety of shapes and sizes and can also range considerably in price. Start off with a cheaper foam pair and see how they perform; a recent review of ear plugs by Slate Magazine found that out of 8 different pairs, the ear plugs that cost 50p per pair turned out to be the most effective and comfortable.

Eye Mask

It’s all very well cutting out the sounds, but what about light? Who hasn’t switched off the light in the hotel bedroom, only to find that the flickering street lights outside deny you of your sleep? A good eye mask will allow you to block out annoying light pollution by night, and should also enable you to get some shut-eye during daylight hours.

Power Adapter

In this world of the mobile phone, laptop computer, PDA, Nintendo DS, and MP3 player, there’s little reason to get bored whilst in transit. But one thing you will require to keep these devices alive is electricity; and remember, different countries have different plug sockets and different power outputs. To ensure you can plug into your destination’s national grid, get a worldwide adaptor that will allow you to tap the supply from your host country, anywhere in the world.

Travel Bag

It’s no good having all the essential items if you’ve got nowhere to put them, therefore make sure you’ve got a good, strong bag to put everything in. The type of bag will obviously vary depending on the type of traveller; backpackers favour, well… backpacks and business travellers tend to go for hard-shell wheelie cases. Both should also carry a travel make up bag for small loose items such as toothbrushes and toiletries.

If you remember to pack these four essential items, you’ll have gone a little way to making your trip smoother and more comfortable. Happy travels!

Packing the Suitcase http://balashiha.su/?p=6727 http://balashiha.su/?p=6727#respond Fri, 03 Jun 2011 02:10:58 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=6727 Packing the Suitcase…Basics 101 for a Family Vacation

We love to go on vacation, and the experiences we share with our families are
amazing, but the packing that is involved can end up being a nightmare. It can be
a huge project and if not planned out properly will end with you needing another
vacation from your vacation.
A requirement for a well planned out vacation is an organized. Packing is an art
and a few helpful tips can make your vacation go smoothly.
How many times do we forget to pack the simple everyday items such
as toothpaste or a hairbrush? There is a way to remember such items.
A week before your planned trip, grab a pen and paper and write down all the
things that come to mind that you know you need to bring. Start with bathroom
essentials, and then move to garment essentials beginning from the head and
going to the toe. Don’t take for granted the myth that because you wear clothes
every day you will remember to pack them. Continue to add things to your list
as the week goes on. You will be surprised the things you miss each day as you
carry on with your daily lives.
Your list won’t do you any good if you don’t check things off as you pack them
prior to the big day. Make sure you check it twice!
Valuable tips for traveling families:

Let the little ones pack back pack with their favorite toys to keep
them busy. Plus they feel important having their own bag to carry.

Don’t OverPack. It is better to Underpack then over pack. Don’t bring the
closet, just visit a Laundromat. Buy T-shirts as your souvenirs that you
can wear while on vacation.

Pack your items in groups, like socks, pants, shirts. That way you are not
scattering through the luggage.

Pack clothes that are easy to care for. Stay wrinkle free; try rayon if you
need to bring a couple nice outfits for evenings out.

It’s ok to “mix and match.” This cuts down on the amount of outfits you
have to pack.

One thing you do need to overpack on…..Underwear. Believe it or not,
that is one thing you NEED to change on a daily basis and with kids
sometimes more than once

Days may be hot, but evenings may be cold, so always bring a sweater or
a wrap, even in the summer.

A trip won’t be enjoyable if your feet are killing you, so pack an extra pair
of well-broken-in walking shoes.
Pre-planning and organizing your trip in advance will save you tons of
troubles and quite a few less nightmares to bare.

How Does a Magnetic Speed Sensor Work http://balashiha.su/?p=4667 http://balashiha.su/?p=4667#respond Tue, 28 Dec 2010 19:38:49 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=4667 How Does a Magnetic Speed Sensor Work

For centuries speed sensors have been used to determine the speed of moving objects. In fact, the very first primitive speed sensors were lengths of rope with a knots tied in them that were tossed over the sides of moving ships to determine how many “knots” the ship was traveling at. However; the advent of the motorized wheeled carriage created the need for a more advanced mechanical speed sensor, such as the type that used a gear and a cable to run a speedometer on an automobile.

A Technological Need

As time and technology progressed however, the need for other types of accurate speed sensors developed. This in turn led to the development of what is often referred to as the magnetic speed sensor. So how do they work? How can a magnet detect and transmit the speed of a moving object?

The Hall Effect

It is not just the magnet in a magnetic speed sensor that is used to determine speed but an electrical current that surrounds the magnet as well. There is a certain electrical phenomena called the “Hall effect” that is used to determine the speed of an object with a magnet.

An Electrical Current

In short, when an electrical current is ran near a magnet and the magnet detects ferrous metal such as iron or steel the electrical current is effected. This electrical effect can then be transmitted by wires to a speed gage where it can be displayed.

Gear Toothed Magnetic Sensor

Often a gear is used in conjunction with a magnetic speed sensor. As the gear spins or turns, each spline or tooth in it will be detected by the magnet as it passes and a corresponding electrical pulse is sent out. The faster the gear spins the faster the electrical pulses the sensor sends and thus a speed reading is made.

Getting ‘safely’ Through Airport Security http://balashiha.su/?p=3945 http://balashiha.su/?p=3945#respond Fri, 19 Nov 2010 07:04:37 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=3945 Getting ‘safely’ Through Airport Security

Want to get through airport security with time to spare?

To do that, you’ve got to know what the rules are.

If you have liquids/lotions (non-prescription) in bottles over 3 oz/100 ml, put them in your to-be-checked luggage. If you try to carry them on, chances are good the security agent will take them from you. If you need them, you can buy bottles of water/juice/soda after being cleared.

Leave at home the pocket knife and tools. Put them in our checked luggage if you need them at your destination.

For liquids that you want to take in your carry-on, get a one quart resealable bag. Each bottle/container must be less than 100 ml/3 fl oz. I take travel sized items, such as toothpaste, shampoo, sunscreen, shaving cream, etc, to have for the first day or two. Then I go to a local supermarket and buy regular sized items for the remainder of the trip.

The first security person you approach will want to see your photo ID and boarding pass. Have them out and ready to show. Photo ID must be government issued like a driver’s license or passport.

Don’t hog the area by the conveyer belt. Move aside as you put into the plastic bins all metal from your pockets, your shoes, your laptop, the one quart bag with liquids, jacket/purse/briefcase/etc. Use more than one bin if necessary. Keep in your hand the boarding pass and your photo ID.

If there is room on the table, push your tubs/carry-on along. Make room on the table for travelers behind you.

The security person on the other side of the metal detector will wave you through. Wait for this. NOW push your items onto the moving conveyer belt. You want to get through the metal detector before your belongings come out the other side of the xray machine.

Pick up your belongings and move out of the way. Put your jacket back on later. Take a chair to put your shoes back on. Now you can put everything away, except for your boarding pass, and head for your flight. Bon Voyage!

(What I’ve written here applies to security in US airports. I’ve been through several international airports in the past year and it is impossible to state what will or will not be allowed through airport security. And to make sure you are current on US airport security rules, just before you leave, check out the Transportation Security Administration traveler’s site. )

Pack Your Essentials Or Pay The Price http://balashiha.su/?p=6707 http://balashiha.su/?p=6707#respond Wed, 21 Apr 2010 01:17:31 +0000 http://balashiha.su/?p=6707 Pack Your Essentials Or Pay The Price!

Packing your suitcase before you travel can be a stressful time, not only are you filled with excitement and some last minute nerves but you’re stressed because you haven’t enough time to pack and you really don’t want to forget a thing! The best way to pack is to remain calm, cool and collected, to give yourself plenty of time to organize what’s being packed and to keep a check list so you can tick off what’s what. Make sure you don’t forget any of the following or your dream holiday could turn into a nightmare.
Sun tan lotion-Unless you want to be completely swindled in resort, don’t forget to take plenty of sun tan lotion! In England, you can buy just about any brand you want from a low-cost shop, however in resort, you’ll be lucky to find not only your usual brand but your preferred factor too. Over the years, I’ve heard many people say “oh well if I need a higher factor I’ll get one when I’m there”, but why?? Just get it before you travel and save yourself at least a fiver and the time and effort it’ll take to get one when you’re there.
Swimwear-In the event of just about everything falling out of your case, you should feel grateful that your favourite item of swimwear is still intact and still with you! No matter what, you’ll be able to enjoy each day of your trip, going down to the beach and relaxing by the pool, without the humiliation of taking a dip in your thin and flimsy underwear!
Toiletries-If you’re anything like me, there’s always something you forget to take away with you, whether it be toothpaste, shampoo or an o-so important piece of make-up! So you’ve forgotten a thing or two, you pop to the local shop (priced especially for you tourists!) and what a surprise, they don’t stock your favourite brand! Instead, you’re forced into buying an alternative because they’ve got you between a rock and a hard place and you have no other choice unless you can go without brushing your teeth or washing your hair for a week.
So whether you’re thinking of booking late deals to Greece where your toiletry bag may well come in handy, cheap holidays to Portugal where your swimwear is a necessity or a long-haul holiday to the sensational Maldives where your high-factor sun tan lotion is essential, unless you want to go home with that illustrious leather look, just like Valentino.
