Erik Hastings on Travel Broadcasting
Erik Hastings, travel expert and host of The Travel Show on WABC Radio, the biggest station in New York, was the guest on the Steve Perillo Travel Show this week. In his conversation with Steve Perillo, the third generation CEO of Perillo Tours, Erik Hastings shares his opinion on who should be called a travel expert. He feels that only people like Arthur Frommer, who have traveled extensively and have years of experience doing it should be called travel experts.
He also admits that he likes to do more than just write articles on travel and that is why he does the radio show. He feels that people should see and hear more about the places they want to travel. He also says that consumers should get a more experiential feel of the place.
On the second part of the Perillo Travel Show, Erik Hastings recounts how he began his career in travel broadcasting industry and his journey towards The Travel Show host on WABC. He reveals to Steve Perillo that he started doing radio from the age of 15, but later quit his job to pursue a career in acting. When his acting career failed to take off, he decided to go back to radio on his friend’s suggestion. He started as a vacation relief board operator and went on to become the host on The Travel Show on WABC.
When quizzed if he wanted to do television after his travel show on radio, Erik Hastings answers that there is more potential for growth on the web than television. According to him, people can get unbiased and good information only on the web.
