This tholos tomb with stone dome, the largest known, was plundered in antiquity. An access passage (dromos), bordered by a peudo-isodome wall, leads to a fa?ade 10.5 metres (34 feet) high. The door opens on to a rotunda, 14.6 metres (48 feet) in diameter and 13.5 metres (44 feet) high, with a masonry domed vault of 33 regular courses; some blocks bore a metal decoration, probably of ‘patera’ form. This door has a pyramidal shape which is also found in Egypt, and which reappears in classical architecture. The lintel is made up of two enormous blocks; the inner one weighs about 120 tons. The void triangle above it is characteristic of Mycenaean architecture: it serves to deflect the thrusts of the upper part of the building on to the supports of the door. No other Mycenaean building can boast such exact stone cutting, nor such refined proportions; not for another 1,000 years in Greece was such technical perfection put at the service of such a grandiose architectural design.

Olympia is one of my favorite’s archaeological sites in all of Greece. You can almost feel the magic of the ancient Olympic Games and service as you stroll around the ruins.

The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC and reached their height of popularity in 576 BC. The festival was open to only Greek born men but latery Romans were allowed to compete most likely because they were running the country by then. Slaves and women were not even allowed to be spectators and women caught sneaking in were thrown off a cliff. The events included foot races, wrestling, discus, javelin, long-jump, horse and chariot racing, and a type of boxing called pancratium. There were not only athletic events but also writing, poetry and history readings, plus business transactions and treaties were made between leaders of city-states.

Meteora is an area in Thessaly (Central Greece) and Kalampaka is the city under

the rock towers of Meteora. The thing that makes Meteora so special is the monasteries on the top of the rock towers. The monasteries, the amound of peaks to climb and the paths for hiking brings in Meteora the whole year many tourists.

The Delphi Museum is situated right next to the ancient site of Delphi, and is a fascinating museum, filled with truly remarkable artifacts, statues and findings from excavations that have taken place in the site of Delphi. The main building of the museum is a shining white marble structure that is very modern, considering the ancient site next door that dates back thousands of years.

On approaching the museum from the walk from the entrance/exit of the archaeological site, you will follow a small path that passes through several relics and tombs located outside of the museum.

1. Go to ALL the travel agents, just because one travel agent tells you its selling out or this is the best price your going to get does not make it true.

2. Check the travel agents websites. You will be  surprised how many times a holiday will be cheaper on there own websites then what it is in store. Most of the time they will match that price or even beat it.

3. Do you need a package holiday? Yes you get protection when buying them and things like transfers included but holidays can be a lot cheaper when you DIY it (hotel and flights).

4. Look early once you decide where you want to go have a look for your summer holiday early ie December/Jan.

5. Look late! if your flexible there’s a lot of really good offers to have when you go last minute.

6. If your going to book separate BOOK FLIGHTS EARLY. When flights are announced they are at there lowest price normally. The more people that book the more they go up … Get in there early.

7. Ask what other people have paid so you have a fair idea of what the “going rate” is for the holiday you want. Places like our forum are a good place to start (www.clubbingabroad.co.uk/forum)

8. Flight meals, do u need them? if not get rid.

9. Baggage allowance if you know you are going to go over your 15kg limit then pay for the upgrade to ?20 when booking. This will be a lot cheaper then paying the airport rate.

10. Do you need to park your car at the airport? Book early and you could save a fair bit. The same goes with trains … early booking = cheaper fairs.

11. Do you need a hotel at the airport, With some of the budget hotels you could get it booked during one of there offers and get it a lot cheaper.

Few U.S. carriers offer power outlets on short flights in economy seats.  Even on planes flying longer routes, such as Boeing 767s and Airbus 330s, economy travelers will find outlets only infrequently throughout the cabin, perhaps every two or three rows.

Some travel experts believe that power outlets are rarely seen in coach seats because this feature becomes a differentiating factor for business travelers.  It certainly provides businessmen who want to work on computers when they fly motivation to fly business class.

Of the major U.S. airlines, only American Airlines offers coach seat power outlets which are installed in every third row.  The only U.S. airline to offer power outlets in all seats is Virgin America which heavily promotes this feature.  There are 28 planes in Virgin’s fleet.

Virgin has observed that 53 percent of its customers travel with laptops.  It sees power outlets as a key reason why passengers select Virgin as their airline of choice.

When you fly with these airlines, you will need an extra battery or two. The  really difficult part, it the lact of public receptacles around the airport. You need to pay dearly to charge between segments.
