How to Live the High Life in Phuket

You might think that Phuket is all about beaches and beer bars. Although at first you may not see it, Phuket has a social scene filled with trendsetters and the island’s well-to-do sorts. If you want to live the high life in Phuket, you have to follow the socialite trail and wine and dine in all the right places. Soon enough, you’ll become a familiar face and will be able to meet the right people, darling.

First of all, you have to look the part. We’re not talking sandals and Beer Chang vests here. Phuket’s social butterflies are snappy dressers. If you want to fit in, ditch those tired clothes and head to Central Festival or Jungceylon to buy yourself some new threads.

When it comes to dining out, Phuket’s butterflies flutter to a variety of places. Baba Dining Lounge at Sri Panwa has been vogue for a while thanks to its secluded location, snazzy d?cor and a great menu. The owner is something of a familiar face around the island, so there are regular parties at Sri Panwa where people go to drink, dance and mingle.

Another popular haunt at the moment is White Box just before Kamala Hill. White Box is a jazzy restaurant that has great views out over Patong Bay. It’s a little out of the way for tourists, so it’s generally only frequented by Phuket’s socializing residents. White Box also hosts a number of parties with the music policy focused on hip hop or house.

Another hip restaurant is Ratri Jazztaurant in Kata. The steep climb up a hill is worthwhile because of the magical views you’re treated to from the restaurant. Great food and jazz music make for the perfect combination.

On the subject of parties, if you want to be seen in all the right places, you’re going to have to closely follow the party circuit. BYD Lofts is a chilled-out place at the Club Andaman Resort. It’s a great spot to grab a bite to eat and a few drinks while listening to the live music. A lot of people visit BYD before heading to Club Lime.

Club Lime is just about the hippest venue in Phuket. The music ranges from house and electro to techno and breaks. Don’t expect to hear any pop or cheesy dance tunes. At weekends, people dance the nights away at Club Lime until well into the morning. The drinks are expensive and there’s usually a cover charge. The venue looks fabulous, however, and it attracts a fashionable crowd from week to week.

If you want to win some kudos points with the “it” crowd, you’re going to need to find a way to get into the island’s biggest parties, which usually happen as part of Phuket Raceweek and the King’s Cup Regatta. The final party of the King’s Cup is always particularly memorable. Making friends in the right places will help you get invited to Phuket’s many parties throughout the year.

Holland Travel – Amsterdam, Van Gogh, Anne Frank

Holland certainly has a reputation with travelers. Known for having a very liberal attitude on social issues such as prostitution and drugs, the reputation is not always deserved. Yes, marijuana and prostitution is legal, but there is so much more to the country. Many look at Amsterdam as Holland, but visitors know there is much more. If you desire to travel to Holland, also known as the Netherlands, don’t miss these attractions.

Amsterdam

Simply put, Amsterdam has something for everyone. The city is an incredibly beautiful collection of old world European architecture elegantly partitioned by canals. In truth, the city is built on roughly 90 small islands, although you can hardly tell. Transportation is best undertaken on foot or by bicycle. With a cool climate, you’ll barely break a sweat.

Contrary to popular opinion, Amsterdam is not just a city of liberal policies. Yes, coffee bars sell things other then just coffee. Yes, there are women in windows that are awfully friendly. Still, there is so much more to experience in the city.

Van Gogh Museum

The Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh houses the world’s largest collection of the work of Vincent van Gogh. From his early work, the museum contains 700 artistic works and 850 letters. After moving to Paris in 1886, van Gogh entered an impressionist period, of which the museum contains a large collection. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the collection is the organization. The entire collection is arranged chronologically from the first to last work. As you walk, you can clearly see the evolution of this master’s skill.

Anne Frank House

Who hasn’t read the intense diary of Anne Frank? Hiding from the Nazis, she and her family lived in an annexed section of an apartment in Amsterdam for two years. In 1957, the house was donated to the Anne Frank Foundation and turned into a museum. A visit will send chills through your spine. The museum contains films, the annexed area and the original notes of Anne Frank. A must see for anyone traveling to Amsterdam.

Beyond Amsterdam

For those needing a break from Amsterdam, there is much to be seen in Holland. If you are looking for a color explosion, consider taking the bulb cycling tour out of Noordwijk. Windmills your thing? Head to the De Zaan district to see them in action. Prefer to spend a night in a castle? Try the Castle Hotel Engelenburg, which even lets you ruin a good walk by playing golf.

Travel to Holland and you won’t regret it. Whether you want to “investigate” the countries liberal policies or simply bike through fields of tulips, Holland will satisfy.

Dealing with Lost Airline Luggage

The satisfaction derived from purchasing cheap airplane tickets, finding discount hotel rooms, or securing cheap vacation packages, is quickly diminished if your airline loses your luggage.  Getting reimbursed for lost luggage can prove tricky.

The first thing a passenger needs to do once he discovers that his bag is lost is to go to the baggage claim office at the airport he flew in and report the missing bag.

The good news is that airlines are required to reimburse travelers for clothing and toiletries as a result of lost or delayed bags, according to DOT (Department of Transportation).  The bad news is that reimbursement details are left up to each individual airline.

Some carriers initially deny compensation to customer for purchases made within the first 24 hours followed a reported loss, and/or deny claims for inbound flights on the grounds that passengers have other clothes they can wear already at home. Both positions, according to DOT, are violations of its regulations.  DOT’s position is that fliers purchasing necessities after they file a missing bag claim should be reimbursed vs. having to wait to see if their bag is returned.

Almost 2.2 million pieces of luggage were reported mishandled by airlines in the U.S. last year.  Airlines maximum liability for lost luggage is $3,300 for domestic flights.  The maximum for international flights is only $640.  Airlines are not required to refund checked baggage fees for lost luggage.

Although airlines are required to reimburse for clothing, the amount is negotiable.   Airlines typically make filing a claim as difficult as possible, asking you to prove (via such things as receipts) the value of your lost clothing.  The DOT does not get involved in monitoring or recommending airline reimbursement rates.

Airline customer confusion and frustration in getting claims paid often ultimately benefits the airline.  Customer claims that are not followed up on by the customer often go unreimbursed.  Airlines retain the right to approve or reject any claim.

Persistence is sometimes needed to get a fair resolution for a claim of lost bags.  The DOT recommends that passengers who claims are denied should file a claim with the Aviation Consumer Protection and Enforcement Office.

Walt Disney World Tips — Planning To Have The Most Fun On Your Disney Trip

If you don’t look for some Walt Disney World tips before you plan your trip to Disney World, you’re going to miss out. It’s only when you map out your trip ahead of time that you’re able to do all of the things that you want to do, like meet all the characters and go on all the rides.

These Walt Disney World tips will help you to make the most of your time:

  1. Plan your days, but give yourself some wiggle room. The park features the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach and you probably want to spend a day at the ones that you want to visit. You should plan out which days you want to visit each park, but leave some time open so that you can re-visit your favorite ones.
  2. Plan your food before you go. Bringing your food into the park is a great way to save money, but you’ll need to think ahead in order to buy food at the grocery store and pack it with you. For those that are interested in the restaurants, you may need to make a reservation, especially if you are interested in the popular restaurants.
  3. Choose the right time to go. The right time depends largely on your goals for the trip. If you want to save money, for example, consider the off-season time frame. However, if you want to be there for the special Christmas show, you’ll need to plan the trip around Christmas time.
  4. Take a backpack into the park with you. Inside, be sure to pack all of the items that you may need throughout the day. This could include extra diapers and wipes, snacks, water bottles, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and medicine. These items will cost much more once you’re inside the park.
  5. Study the park maps to plan out your day. The Disney World parks are quite extensive and it can take some time to get from one end of the park to the other. To make the most of your time, you want to look at the map ahead of time and plan to do things that are close together at the same time.

Having a great Disney trip all starts with proper planning. If you want to be sure to have a great trip, you need to think about what you want to do and what types of things you’ll need to take with you.
