Enjoy Florida’s Culturally Diverse Food

Florida’s Gulf and Atlantic coasts and its inland waters serve up a mouth-watering menu of marine cuisine. Depending on the time of year and where you are, you can dine on Apalachicola oysters, Fernandina Beach shrimp, St. Johns River blue crabs, Florida Bay lobsters, and Cedar Key clams, Grouper, mahi-mahi, largemouth bass, speckled perch, and trout.

For Starters – here are a few;

Conch Chowder – a creamy soup made with conch (a giant sea snail). Conch live in those shells that some of you buy in souvenir shops, take back home, put it to your ear and think that you can hear the ocean.

The two most common ways conch is prepared is in chowder or fried.

U-Peel-Shrimp

This is a dish consisting of shrimp cooked in a spicy broth.

Some Main Course dishes

Seared Tuna may be served with a mango salsa and grilled chayote (a type of squash). For the mango salsa; Fresh mangoes are blended with herbs, spices and scotch bonnet peppers for mild heat.

Chicken Tropicana This is a chicken dish with tropical fruit sauce, coconut and cashews. Dessert.

Key Lime Pie – you cannot mention Florida desserts without mentioning this Florida Signature dessert.

Key Lime Pie is filled with a tangy custard made from Key lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, and sugar. The pie is named after the small Key limes that are found throughout the Florida Keys.

Key lime juice is yellow, not green – so if it is green it is not authentic. To sample a day’s worth of Cuban delights (Cuban cuisine is a fusion of Spanish, African and Caribbean cuisine), begin at breakfast with a wedge of hot, buttered, Cuban bread with a cup of caf

? con leche — this is strong coffee with a some milk.

Other choices include frijoles negros (black beans), arroz con pollo (chicken and yellow rice), boliche (a beef roast, stuffed with chorizo sausage), Cuban mojo-roast pork, arroz salteado (salted rice), and deviled crab with hot sauce. Feast your eyes and stomach on a heaping dish of paella — rice mixed with a profuse amount of delights that may include mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, lobster, oysters, stone-crab claws, chicken, and/or pork.

To finish off, try flan, egg custard oozing with caramel sauce. Then go back to your Florida Vacation Rental Home and have a well earned rest.

Navigating Yourself Through Vancouver British Columbia

Inner-City Transportation Options

Vancouver is one of the few remaining North American cities to place a higher level of importance on its’ communities over road infrastructure. Instead of a 6 lane highway cutting through the downtown core, SkyTrains and other public transit vehicles have been used to service the increasing transportation needs of the city’s residents. This translates into a direct benefit for travelers as they are presented with a number of transportation options. In Vancouver, guests are not relegated to a specific area/community; for example, tourists may stay in a vacation rental or hotel in the nearby city of Burnaby while still only being a 15 minute SkyTrain ride away from downtown.

Vancouver’s public transit system spans across the Greater Vancouver area through a combination of SkyTrains, shuttles, buses, and sea-buses. Tourists are able to go from The Vancouver International Airport to Grouse Mountain for the nominal price.

Although renting a car, taking a taxi, or riding public transit may be quick & easy; renting a bicycle can sometimes be the best way to see Vancouver’s beauty. Wrapped around the majority of the downtown coast is a bike path which showcases many of Vancouver’s diverse settings. Along the way, guests will be treated a host of popular attractions including: Stanley Park, Granville Island, and The Telus World of Science.

Airport Transportation Options

At the end of a good vacation, most people have to return to where they came from; and in most cases, that requires returning to YVR (Vancouver International Airport). Luckily this trip can be made quite easy as tourists are presented with several options in getting to the airport.

RAV Line – The Richmond Airport Vancouver Line, or simply RAV Line, was completed prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics and stretches from the center of downtown Vancouver all the way to YVR. Passengers will travel underground for the majority of the trip and cross over the Fraser River before arriving at the airport. The RAV Line is the typically the least expensive method of getting to the airport.

Another efficient way of getting to the airport is by use of the traditional taxi-cab. All taxis in Vancouver use standard metered rates, so there is no need to negotiate beforehand. For guests arriving in YVR, there is always a line-up of taxis right outside the airport doors.

For guests arriving in Vancouver but heading out to other local destinations, like Whistler Blackcomb for example, there are charter bus options available; however it is recommended that guests pre-book their seats, especially for charters that pickup at the airport.

In today’s busy and expensive world of travel, packing your bags for any trip, whether it is a quick weekend getaway or a month long holiday abroad can be a bit dicey. This is especially true if you will be travelling by airplane. As the airlines have all adopted fairly strict and in some cases exceedingly prohibitive rules and fees surrounding the transport of your bags. From increased security concerns to the rising cost of jetliner fuel, packing for a trip is not what it used to be at all! Before embarking on your next journey, you should consult some travel tips for packing luggage.

It used to be that packing your bags was a chore that you underwent simply to make sure that you would have all that you needed when you arrived at your destination. As long as you could get your suitcase closed, you were good to go. Very little, if any thought was ever given to the actual trip there and back when you were considering what you needed to bring along. Today however, you need to devote just as much if not more thought to what will and will not be allowed on the plane as what you would like to wear once you get to your destination. It is wise to consult different travel tips for packing luggage before you start packing, just o make sure that your luggage will be allowed onboard.

It used to be that each passenger aboard an aircraft was allowed two checked bags, one carry on and one personal item as part of the cost of their airline ticket. The only time that there would be an additional fee was if any of the checked luggage exceeded a certain weight. Today, many airlines charge you to check any bag, regardless of size. Airport security may also restrict what kinds of items you may bring in your carryon bag as well. For this reason, many airlines provide travel tips for packing luggage on their websites, which allows their passenger to know what they can and cannot do on their flight.

The bottom line is this, if you are travelling anywhere for more than just a day, you are going to need some sort of luggage. Before you begin packing it, you need to know what you can bring. The very best travel tips for packing luggage are simple, check with your individual airline to find out what is and is not permissible, and work from there.
