Kata Beach is one of the premier resort areas on Phuket and there are plenty of hotels, resorts and activities from which tourists can select.

Capannina

One of my favorite restaurants in this area of Phuket is Capannina as they offer really awesome Italian food and some of the largest pizzas I have ever seen in Thailand. It does get rather busy during the evening hours so please do make a reservation ahead of time.

Bluefin Tavern

Most local expats have at least visited the Bluefin Tavern as its food is excellent and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. It is well known for its wonderful Tex Mex dishes and great pizzas. This Kata restaurant is also a great place to head down to if you want to watch live sporting events on a large screen.

If Your Destination Plans Are Up In The Air, Consider Beautiful Quebec

Canada is one of the best destinations for versatility and adventure.  If you are on the lookout for a great place to take your family and get back to nature then the ‘other’ Quebec is a great option.  Many people choose to visit Montreal but never get a chance to see the rest of Quebec and all of the amazing things to do outside of the city including Quebec tours.

One great adventure, for example, is an exciting canoe trip.  You travel out to a remote setting in the wilderness for approximately 2 – 5 days on crystal clear lakes.  The wildlife is all around you from moose and barred owls to black ducks and bank swallows and you can leisurely observe all of the animals in their natural habitat.  The canoe trips can take place in Mont Tremblant Provincial Park, that is near Montreal, or possibly in the Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve.  Included in these tours are refreshing swimming areas, and shaded campsites that the natives of the area used.  The guides will also provide you with games and many things to do while you roast your marshmallows over the open fire.

But perhaps you are a bit more adventuresome and require more action than a leisurely canoe trip.  That’s when the whitewater canoe trip along the Dumoine River needs to be considered.  This is in the western side of Quebec and these trips are for beginners and include instructions.  Most people consider the Dumoine the best river for whitewater canoeing.  This river of water drops more than 500 feet from it’s beginning at Lac Dumoine to 60 miles away at the Ottawa River.  Along this river are 16 sets of rapids both class I and class II and each have a name.  Yes, they do have a few class III and class IV rapids but the beginner will need to be lifted or portaged around.  In addition, there is time for hiking, taking amazing pictures and all around fun.  Nothing is better than the beauty of taking a Quebec trip along this river.

As the weather is getting a bit cooler in Quebec you will want to look at other activities such as backpacking along the Saguenay River.  The mouth of this river has had cruise ships in their waters for quite some time but the shores provide great hiking trails that even have some newly built cabins for your convenience along the way.  You have a choice of a 4-day trip that will run along the northern side of the river or a 3-day hike on the southern side.  If you are really enjoying yourself you have the option to do both.  Each of the trips are quite different from the other as one travels close to the riverbank and the other is at a high altitude that is much colder.  All of the trails have been made safe with some stairs built into the sides of the steep cliffs and they are usually dry and well maintained.  It is recommended that the best month to take this backpacking trip would be in September.  You will be required to carry your food, a light sleeping bag as well as your own personal gear.  You will have the time of your life in this beautiful area of Quebec.

The Quebec tours have something for everyone and also something for every time of year.  When the weather becomes cold and winter settles in the most fun you can have in the snow is cross-country skiing that goes from cabin to cabin.  These cross-country expeditions begin and end northeast of Montreal in Quebec at a place called Reserve faunique de Papineau Labelle.  You can bring a group of your friends or family and choose your own dates.  The peaceful trails and the beauty of the scenery is enough to bring one back time and time again.  The views when you reach the hilltops are breathtaking and cannot be matched as you look out on the rolling hills of the Laurentian valleys.  You are, as they say, one with nature, amidst the wildlife that abounds all around you.  These tours have included in the price, the transport of your gear on snowmobiles, which will allow for freedom to travel.  The cabins along the way will accommodate from 4 – 12 people on this trip and there are options for side trips as well.

As you can see, taking Quebec trips can be exciting and exhilarating.  So get away from the city for a while and enjoy what Quebec’s nature and countryside has to offer.  You won’t be sorry that you did.

The Weather in Lanzarote

The climate in Lanzarote is similar to the other six Canary Islands, with spring like weather all year round. The absence of any large central mountain means that the difference in temperature between the north and the south is minimal. In summer, the maximum temperature is around 25 degrees centigrade and in winter, the average is 17 degrees centigrade.

Although winters are mild, the warm clouds sometimes collect on the mountains of the north of the island and fog can form over the Riscos de Famara. In recent years, the apparent change in pattern of world wide weather has brought a slightly higher than average rainfall in Lanzarote. This of course has been beneficial to this normally arid climate and has also created a greener landscape in certain parts of this Canary Island.

Spring and summer can be windy in Lanzarote, reaching 23 knots or more, which makes it very popular for windsurfers. An easterly wind known as sirocco sometimes blows from the Sahara Desert. The temperature rises and it can become oppressive. However, these conditions never last long and soon, it is back to clear skies again. Should you experience cloudy weather in your resort, it is quite likely that in another part of the island, it will be sunny. Winter in Lanzarote is generally ten percent warmer than on mainland Spain which is why it is such a popular wintersun destination. The resort of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote tends to have the best of the sun as it is the most southerly.

Tips for Saving While Eating Out With Family

The plans have been made. Snacks and meals have been packed. Everything that needs to be done to help you save on your vacation has been done. Only now the kids want to eat out. Instead of fighting the tide, look around for one of the many deals that are offered for families during the week.

1. Applebee’s – this family chain has a lot of variety to meet all the tastes your group might have. Even better, on Tuesdays and Thursdays in most locations they offer Kids Meals (off the kid menu) for only $.99.

2. Captain D’s – It’s a great little seafood place and an even better way to save a little cash while you are on vacation. Call the local restaurant and see if they offer the “kids eat free” deal at that location. On Thursdays you can get to free kid’s meals for every adult meal purchased, but it is DINE IN only.

3. IHOP – There are so much more than pancakes available here – although pancakes are a specialty. The great thing is that on Fridays (from 3 pm – 9 pm) the kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal.

4. Chik-fil-A – The cows are thrilled when you chose to eat here. And to encourage you even further, your kids can eat free on Tuesdays.

5. O’Charleys – This is another great variety restaurant and kids can eat free here every day (from the children’s menu). Keep in mind that drinks come separate and will run around $2.

6. McDonalds – under the golden arches you can find kids meals for under $1 on Tuesdays.

7. Ruby Tuesdays – You can find a wide variety of entr?e’s and some great prices as well. To make it even more budget friendly, you can get a free kid’s meal (with adult purchase) on Wednesday nights.

Eating out doesn’t have to cost a fortune. You can cut corners by cutting coupons or you can visit your local restaurants on nights when the kids can eat free. There are some things you should always keep in mind:

• Not all restaurants in the chain will participate in the programs, so call your nearest location before you go.

• Kids Eat Free deals are not usually advertised very aggressively and are more likely to be found through word of mouth. Do some research on line AND be sure to ask friends and family about any deals they have heard of.

• Local or regional restaurants often run weekly specials. Call around to see what you can find to fit your family’s budget.
